Work Permits – LMIA Based Work Visa Canada

Work Permits - LMIA Based Work Visa Canada

Employers in Canada are required to obtain a letter from Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC)/Service Canada approving the temporary employee’s employment. A labour market impact assessment is what this is (LMIA). A temporary foreign worker may be hired by an employer when a labour market impact assessment (LMIA) has been completed. That demonstrates that there is a need for an outsider to fill the position because no Canadians are available to do so.

The application for a work permit based on the LMIA is two steps. Applying to Service Canada for an LMIA is the initial step. The LMIA is designed to make sure that competent Canadian citizens and/or permanent residents are not preferred over foreign workers. Employing foreign nationals in the designated occupation and at the designated workplace is likely to have a positive or neutral effect on the Canadian labour market, according to positive LMIA.

Once an employer has received a favourable LMIA from Service Canada, the next step is to submit an application for a work permit. Application for a work visa is made to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
